Business Casual – What Does It Mean?

Business Casual

Business Casual is a term you’re bound to hear sooner or later if you work in the corporate world. The interesting thing about the term ‘Business Casual’ is that there isn’t a concrete definition on what it is. So we thought it would be a great idea to touch on this and give our opinions (derived from our many years of experience).

Business Casual, Our Understanding

The safest way to execute business casual is to simply remove the neck tie from a suit (and unbuttoning the top button on your shirt). This instantly adds a casual vibe to the look, whilst the suit looks very business oriented. If it turns out that you’re still too overdressed, then at least you can still remove your jacket.

Another option for business casual is to keep the tie but removed the jacket. This is a big move though, as the jacket is a major component of the business look. If executed correctly, this look will come across as very smart.

Jumpers are a great casual replacement when subtracting a jacket from an outfit.

At a push, opt for a blazer.
